Background

Tents and canopies: a tent that blows away is no accident

A tent that blows away is not an accident but a mistake in the preparation. Almost always the same two causes apply: a frame too light for the location, or ballast that does not suit the ground.

We supply folding tents, reception tents, inflatables and parasols — and we supply the ballast that stops your event taking off at the first gust.

The types

Folding tents

The workhorse of every event: quick to put up, compact to store, and in professional form good for many years. The standard choice for markets, sporting events, open days and site presence.

Reception tents

Larger and sturdier, intended for receptions, VIP areas and multi-day events. Where a folding tent provides shelter, a reception tent creates a room.

Inflatables

Inflatable tents and structures. They attract attention and go up quickly, which makes them particularly suited to start and finish areas and to brand activation.

Parasols

Shade on terraces and at stands. For hospitality often the most visible piece of brand communication on site, day after day.

The frame makes the difference

The difference between a cheap folding tent and a professional one lies in the frame: the wall thickness of the aluminium, the hinges and the tension of the roof.

You will not notice that difference in the showroom or at the first set-up. You notice it in the first strong wind, and by then it is too late — for the tent, and possibly for what and who is standing underneath.

That is why we always ask where and how often the tent will stand before proposing a version. A tent that goes up and down twenty times a year needs different hinges from one bought for a single open day.

Ballast and anchoring: this is a safety matter

The accessories are not an afterthought. Ballast weights, ground pegs and concrete bases determine whether your tent stays up.

Which solution is needed depends on the ground and the expected wind force. On an asphalt car park you cannot anchor and must ballast; on grass pegs will do. A tent on a square without ballast is a risk, however calm the weather looks on the morning of the build.

We advise on this, because it is a question of safety and not of budget.

Sidewalls, lighting and printing

Sidewalls, lighting and printing complete the picture. Sidewalls determine whether the tent stays usable in rain or crosswind; lighting determines whether it still works after sunset.

Printing on the roof and walls turns a neutral tent into your tent. For anyone setting up several times a year, that is the difference between being present and being recognised.

What determines the price?

With tents you pay for the construction, not the fabric. Two three-by-three folding tents can differ by a wide margin, and that gap lies almost entirely in the aluminium and the hinges.

Also counting: size, the number of sidewalls, printing, and the ballast that suits your ground. That last item is often left out of comparisons, so a cheap quotation looks cheap until you have to buy the weights yourself.

We include ballast in the quotation as standard, even when that makes the total look higher. Better an honest figure than a tent that is not allowed to stand.

Prices are available in the Herva-Doublet Platform.

Tell us where the tent will stand

Give us the ground surface, the dimensions of the location and the number of set-ups per year. With that we will propose the version and the ballast that will hold at that spot.

Frequently asked questions
